Quality
IYHA – Israel Youth Hostels Association – became a pioneer in the field of tourism when it adopted the ISO 9001 Quality Standards. As early as the mid-1990s, the association voluntarily decided to implement these standards in all its hostels and offices in light of the importance we place on quality of service, professionalism of our employees, and the attentive mANA23gement of our hostels and various administrative departments.
The association’s quality control system ensures correct implementation of work and service procedures in the hostels, monitoring guest satisfaction, locating and correcting faults in work processes, and maintaining a structured procedure for implementing preventative and corrective actions.
The Standards Institutions of Israel is responsible for officially reviewing all areas related to ISO standards requirement. Additionally, the IYHA upholds the standards set by the Hostel International Federation for receiving the HI-Q quality certification.
IYHA runs a comprehensive range of courses for employees which keep IYHA staff up to date as we seek to ensure ongoing highest standards of service.
Sustainability
In recent years, IYHA has placed emphasis on activities related to the field of sustainability. Our activities manifest on several levels: installing environmentally friendly systems in our hostels, emphasizing issues on energy savings and environmental preservation, structuring new hostels based on “green building”, recycling hostel waste, installing water saving devices in all hostels, taking part in educational enterprises on sustainability, and more. IYHA also interface with Hosteling International (HI) on sustainability and is an involved participant in diverse activities.
As part of IYHA’s emphasis on sustainability, we are currently in the process of receiving the Green ecolabel for all hostels in our chain. HI provides qualification for the Green ecolabel together with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council under the auspices of the UN, which has begun certifiying hostels and will, in the coming 2 years, qualify all hostels in the IYHA network.
